Yellow weather warning for snow and ice

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice from Wednesday through to Thursday evening

Key Information:

The warning area covers the coastal areas on the eastern side of the Scottish Borders

Warning runs from 6am on Wednesday to 6pm Thursday

Snow showers will feed inland through Wednesday and Thursday, giving significant accumulations in places

Snow accumulations of 2-5cm will be possible at low levels, with 5-10cm on hills above 100m elevation

Areas above 300m could see accumulations as much as 15-20cm

Strong gusts could be associated with the showers and some isolated lightning strikes are possible at times

Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable

Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces may be likely so take extra precautions where possible

Bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible

Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
